Ed and Carol Smith started life on a farm, one in
Nebraska the other in Kansas, and drifted in and out of agriculture as some do
in life. They
met and married in the panhandle of Nebraska, and have been married for
thirty-four years. They moved to Oklahoma in 1973. They have two children
Brandi and Chad. Chad is married to Christie and they have two
daughters Kate and Ella. Daughter Brandi and her husband Mark
and Sophie live in the Florida Panhandle.
Ed
and Carol started a heavy highway construction company in 1988. Ed is still
involved in this business,
and helps out at the ranch when needed, especially during breeding season and
haying time. Carol retired from the construction company to run the ranch.
What started out as an interest in cattle, turned into a passion, for Angus.
In 1993, they sold their commercial cow herd and bought Angus. They
sold bulls and replacement heifers by private treaty until the fall of 2004.
Their annual production sale is held every third weekend of September now, at
the ranch.
