May & June Journal News 2010

Man time seems to have slipped away from me and I haven't updated things in a little while. We got lucky and got rain for the month of May and just enough in June to make things green and grow the grass here. We missed a few of the really bad storms, seems they went around us. Hope everyone else is doing alright.
Got pictures from my brother in Memphis and all the flooding around there. Where he used to live was completely underwater, luckily he had moved to the other side of the river years ago, so everyone is alright.
We only lost two cows this past month or so due to lighting storms. Always hate going out and finding one. Both were fall bred cows what a bummer. Lost the transformer to the barn in one, but the electrician got us going again, only had to warm water at the house a one time.
Got all the breeding done and have the bulls out for a month to get a little therapy on any we missed. Not too many came back in for a second go round, so am optimistic at his time.
Horse racing has just gone, no great runners so far this year. Meaning we haven't won any big futurity or derby. Although the year isn't over by any means. Have some running in July and on, so will wait and see.
I've gotten all my grand girls several times, guess that is part of the reason I'm behind on things such as News. I got their fairy garden about done for this year. Got the horse swing hung up and some fairies in trees, along with some butterflies and stuff. Sophie is the only that got bucked off the tire swing made to look like a horse, but at least she landed on grass. Mowed paths out to the tree line and around the apple trees for them to run and play in. Flowers like rebeckia and daylilies are coming up. I'm not going to let them hay this part of the yard. Although last time they were all three here at the same time, oh my they saw a snake in the grass and all came back screaming. Took a bit but convinced them he was just as scared of them as they were of him. Little Yazzie would like to take off and go with them now that she can crawl, but of course she is just stuck with me.
It's the last week in June and we are starting to put down some hay. It is looking good so far.
Don't know how but I almost forgot! I got a NEW TRACTOR!!! A big green tractor. (Kate already knows the words to Ride in my big green tractor). It has a cab and everything. Ghezzz, all these years the bale man got air conditioning and a radio and comfort, sometimes even the mow person, but never the rake. Wow let me tell ya I am gonna be living high on the hog! I might not even look forward to the end of the season ha !       (Gotta be dreaming!) Ed said at least for this one year anyway, we might not have a lot of breakdowns and get thru, without any major calamities.
OK, after all the excitement of the new tractor, I knew this month wouldn't finish without something going on. Our  ranch feed truck got stolen. They broke into JJ's house as he went out for dinner. And took the keys to the truck and got a pair of his boots. Darn thieves all they took was the keys on top of the refrigerator and his darn boots. Hope the boots create blisters. Turned in a report to the sherriffs department, but haven't heard anything yet. Maybe we will get lucky and it was a joy ride. With the other truck broke down and Ford denied our warranty (that's a whole other story). We are down to checking cattle, on a four wheeler and horse back. If anything needs to be hauled or need parts that takes up most of my time right now. Maybe if we get lucky we will get a new engine put in the one truck and the sheriffs department will find the other one intact.
Yahooooo, got lucky and found the truck!! Mainly in one piece a few things torn up but at least it seems driveable. God is good!
Hope all your haying goes well!
Til Next month!
